Your cloud usage changes daily.
Your commitments should too.

Autopilot continuously analyzes your cloud usage and purchases commitments directly in your cloud environment. As usage changes, it adjusts future purchases so your commitment coverage stays aligned with what you actually use.

Usage Changes

The commitment worked when you bought it. Then your usage changed.

Your commitment can be well sized and fully utilized on Day 1. But workloads grow, shrink, migrate, and change over time while the commitment stays fixed.

The commitment wasn’t wrong. The workload moved.

Well-covered today. Misaligned tomorrow.

Your $100/hr commitment stays fixed while your actual usage changes.

How autopilot works

Four steps. One smarter
commitment strategy.

Autopilot continuously analyzes, forecasts, purchases and adjusts so your commitments stay aligned with real usage.

01

Analyze

Understand usage patterns across every linked account.

02

Forecast

Separate lasting demand from temporary spikes and drops.

03

Evaluate

Compare expected usage with your existing commitments and On-Demand exposure.

04

Act

Buy, wait, adjust, or let commitments expire — within the controls you set.

Continuously re-evaluated as your usage changes.

Autopilot follows your sustained usage not every spike.

Coverage increases only when demand persists, keeping short-term changes flexible and reducing overcommitment risk.

Actual usage Total compute demand Autopilot coverage Committed capacity On-Demand Flexible usage
$160/hr $120/hr $80/hr $40/hr $0/hr Temporary spike Stays On-Demand Coverage increases after sustained usage Autopilot coverage ~$90/hr 3 months ago 6 weeks ago Today
$160 $120 $80 $40 $0 Temporary spike stays on-demand Coverage increases after sustained usage Coverage ~ $90/hr 3 months ago 6 weeks ago Today

Autopilot commits to sustained usage, not temporary spikes.

It only increases coverage when demand persists, keeping short-term changes flexible and reducing overcommitment risk.

Commit to what holds

Stagger commitments. Stay flexible.

Instead of locking your usage into one large commitment, Autopilot staggers purchases over time. As usage changes, expiring commitments give Autopilot regular opportunities to adjust coverage.

Traditional commitments

One commitment.
One expiration.

Your coverage stays fixed, even when your usage changes.

One fixed commitment
100% commitment Expires Jan 2028
Today Year 1 Year 2 Year 3
Actual usage Fixed coverage
Usage drops coverage stays fixed
!
Usage drops. You still pay. Unused commitment remains locked in until expiry.
Autopilot FlexCadence

Multiple commitments.
More flexibility.

Autopilot staggers expirations, so coverage can adapt over time.

Commitment 1 3 months
Commitment 2 6 months

Protect the downside

Autopilot manages commitments.
Not your infrastructure.

Autopilot works only at the cloud billing and commitment layer helping you capture savings without changing, interrupting, or taking control of your infrastructure.

Access

No infrastructure access

Autopilot operates at the billing and commitment layer. It cannot start, stop, resize, or modify workloads.

Visibility

Every purchase is transparent

See what Autopilot purchased, why it purchased it, and the savings it created.

Protection

Cashback if usage drops

Eligible commitments are protected against underutilization through Usage.ai’s cashback program.*

FAQ

Questions teams ask before
switching Autopilot on.

01 What permissions does Usage.ai need?

Read access to billing and commitment data, plus permission to purchase commitments on your behalf. Usage.ai has no access to start, stop, or modify production resources.

02 What happens if my usage drops after a purchase?

Eligible Flex Commitments include financial protection for qualifying underutilization, subject to program terms. The dashboard shows utilization and any protection applied.

03 Can I move a service between Autopilot and CoPilot later?

Yes. The mode is set per cloud service and can be changed at any time. Recommendations continue either way; only execution changes.

04 How often does Autopilot buy?

The analysis runs every day, but a purchase happens only when the forecast shows durable demand and the action fits your account controls. Many days end with no action.

05 Which cloud services are supported?

List supported services here for example, EC2, RDS, Lambda, ElastiCache, and the supported GCP and Azure equivalents.

06 How is this different from a one time RI or Savings Plan recommendation?

A one time recommendation is a snapshot. Autopilot re-forecasts daily and builds coverage in layers with FlexCadence, so every purchase decision uses the latest information from your environment.
