How It Works
An EC2 Instance Savings Plan requires a 1 or 3-year hourly spend commitment against a single EC2 instance family in a single AWS region. In exchange, AWS applies the discounted rate to any instance size or operating system within that family and region. You do not need to specify the exact instance size upfront. The plan covers EC2 usage only and does not extend to Fargate or Lambda. AWS applies the discount automatically whenever your usage matches the committed family and region, and any usage above your commitment continues at on-demand rates.
