Cost Alerts

Cost alerts are automated notifications that fire when cloud spending reaches or exceeds a defined dollar or percentage threshold, giving teams a chance to act before costs escalate further.

How It Works

A cost alert is configured by setting a threshold, a budget amount, a percentage of forecasted spend, or a fixed dollar value, and assigning a notification channel such as email or Slack. When actual or forecasted spend crosses that threshold, the cloud platform or monitoring tool sends an alert to the designated recipients. On AWS, this is done through AWS Budgets paired with Amazon SNS. Azure provides the same capability through Azure Cost Management with budget action rules. GCP handles it through Cloud Billing budget alerts with Pub/Sub or email notifications. Without cost alerts, overspending is discovered after the fact, typically when the monthly invoice arrives. By that point, the waste has already accumulated.
