GCP Active Assist

GCP Active Assist is Google Cloud’s built-in AI recommendation service that surfaces actionable insights to reduce waste, right-size resources, and lower cloud spend.

How It Works

Active Assist continuously analyzes usage patterns across your Google Cloud environment and generates recommendations through a set of specialized recommenders. Each recommender focuses on a specific resource type, such as Compute Engine VM instances, firewall rules, IAM permissions, or Cloud SQL. Recommendations appear in the Google Cloud Console, the gcloud CLI, and the Recommender API, so engineering and finance teams can review and act on them without leaving their existing workflows. Google assigns each recommendation an estimated monthly cost impact, giving teams a quick way to prioritize which actions to take first.

Why It Matters for Cloud Cost

Without a systematic way to surface waste, cloud costs accumulate silently. Engineers provision resources for peak demand and rarely revisit them. Active Assist closes that gap by scanning the environment on an ongoing basis and flagging idle VM instances, oversized machines, and unused IP addresses. Teams that ignore these signals pay for capacity they are not using. Acting on Active Assist recommendations can reduce compute spend without any application changes, making it one of the lowest-effort cost reduction levers available on Google Cloud.

CoPilot surfaces projected savings for customer review before any purchase is executed, so teams can act on GCP cost reduction opportunities, including Committed Use Discounts of up to 57% off on-demand pricing, with full visibility before any commitment is made.
