Usage.ai vs DoiT for GCP: Which Model Fits?
In this article
Key takeaways
1
Both solutions offer automated and approval-based commitment purchasing, so automation alone does not determine the better fit.
2
We focus on commitment optimization, while DoiT also offers broader FinOps tooling, expertise and optional procurement relationships.
3
Compare total fees, purchasing control and remaining commitment exposure, including the conditions of Flex protection, rather than headline savings alone.
If you run heavily on Google Cloud, the Usage.ai vs DoiT decision starts with a practical question: where does your team still need help?

You may already have useful cost reports and engineering support but lack time to manage committed use discounts (CUDs). Or the commitment opportunity may sit alongside unresolved allocation, governance, technical support or procurement needs.

DoiT belongs in both conversations. Its PerfectScale for Commitments offering includes GCP commitment automation as part of a broader cloud-management portfolio. We provide focused commitment optimization with automated or approval-based purchasing and conditional Flex protection.

The choice depends on the work you need covered, the authority you want to retain and the attached commercial terms. That comparison is more useful than treating every platform feature as equally valuable.

This comparison draws on public product documentation and our published program terms. Confirm GCP purchasing coverage, fees, support entitlements, permissions and protection terms against your proposal, agreement and account configuration.

GCP Commitment Management and Risk

Before comparing paid options, review how your team uses Google Cloud’s CUD recommendations and analysis, approves and executes purchases, monitors commitments and reconciles billing. Assess each service against the operational work and commitment exposure that remain.

How Commitments Are Purchased

Both offerings manage native Google Cloud commitments. Our GCP commitment optimization combines resource-based and spend-based CUD opportunities. Our listed GCP coverage includes Compute Engine, GKE and Cloud SQL; confirm purchasing support and Flex eligibility for the specific commitment.

Our Autopilot and CoPilot modes let buyers choose automated execution or recommendation approval, with purchases staged over time.

DoiT’s PerfectScale documentation describes recommendations that account for existing commitments and uncovered usage, including laddering and renewal management. Its GCP onboarding instructions specifically cover Compute flexible CUDs and Cloud SQL CUDs.

Its simulator also models commitments for other GCP services. Confirm purchasing support separately from the ability to simulate savings.

For either vendor, match executable coverage to your eligible spend. Before enabling purchases, confirm the CUD type, supported service, relevant region, project or billing-account scope, existing CUD portfolio, sharing settings, selected term and purchasing authority.

What Happens When Usage Falls

Google’s spend-based CUD terms require a one- or three-year commitment that generally cannot be cancelled. Staggering purchases can adjust future exposure, but it does not remove obligations already purchased.

DoiT’s PerfectScale FAQ assigns ownership and utilization risk to the customer. Conservative purchasing policies can limit exposure, but they do not provide reimbursement protection. Flexsave for Compute is AWS-only; DoiT provides Google Cloud CUD optimization through PerfectScale for Commitments.

For eligible Flex Commitments, we can provide Cashback when commitment costs exceed the equivalent on-demand cost of the same usage. Our published Flex Program terms, include eligibility conditions and exclusions. Substantially reducing usage without advance notice and reasonable justification can disqualify that month from rebates.

Rebates are provided 90 days after the calendar month in which they accrue. They first offset outstanding or current fees and fees owed during the 90 days after the credit date, with any remainder refunded.

The published terms also end rebate eligibility upon agreement termination, including for earlier underutilization; the applicable customer agreement governs.

Protection needs its own contractual review. Before ending either service, confirm three items: which native CUDs remain active and payable through their end dates; how future automated purchases will be paused, disabled or reassigned; and whether protection, rebates, fees or settlement rights change when the service agreement ends.

FinOps Tooling and Expert Support

Tools Beyond Commitment Savings

DoiT’s Cloud Usage & Cost tools cover reporting and allocation, while its unit economics capabilities connect cloud costs to business metrics. These capabilities matter when finance and engineering need to understand spend ownership or how costs change by customer, transaction or workload.

Our commitment reporting helps teams evaluate purchases, savings and utilization. It supports a different decision from establishing a company-wide allocation or unit-cost process.

If your existing tools already answer those broader questions, additional reporting may offer limited value. If they do not, evaluate the wider requirements before narrowing the shortlist. Our guide to GCP cost optimization tools helps frame that evaluation.

Expertise and Cloud Procurement

The strongest reason to prefer DoiT may be the relationship around its software. DoiT’s pricing packages describe expert inquiries in Enhanced and additional Enterprise services, including a named Forward Deployed Engineer and procurement advisory.

That scope can be valuable when internal teams need help resolving cloud problems as well as reducing costs. Procurement through DoiT is optional, and DoiT Cloud Intelligence can be used while purchasing cloud through another partner. Distinguish expert access from separately activated Google Cloud support arrangements.

Our customer-success support includes a dedicated customer success manager and commitment-strategy reviews. Compare the support work included in each proposal rather than assuming every service comes with every product.

Implementation and Purchasing Control

Access and Onboarding

Assessment and execution require different levels of authority. We can run a read-only Savings Test. Purchasing requires additional scoped permissions; commitment execution does not require us to change your workloads.

DoiT’s PerfectScale onboarding guide requires an active entitlement and contract, billing-data access and GCP commitment metadata exports. Execution requires additional purchasing permissions.

For implementation planning, identify who can configure exports, authorize service-account access and approve financial exposure. Evaluate the actual permission set separately from the administrator access your staff need during setup.

Approvals and Purchasing Responsibility

DoiT’s purchasing settings default to approval-based execution, with autonomous mode available by opt-in. Controls include purchasing ceilings and pacing. We offer CoPilot approvals and Autopilot execution by service.

Neither model removes the need for an accountable internal owner. Decide who sets spending limits, reviews workload reductions and can pause future purchases. Returning to approval mode does not undo existing commitments.

Give finance visibility into the obligations being created and assign engineering responsibility for communicating migrations or shutdowns. If other tools already purchase commitments, establish which system controls each eligible usage pool before enabling another purchaser.

Pricing and Total Cost

What Each Fee Covers

Our published Flex pricing methodology charges a percentage of realized savings, billed monthly in arrears using finalized provider billing. Confirm the fee percentage in your quote and agreement.

DoiT’s PerfectScale onboarding documentation requires a contractual addendum with an agreed savings-share fee. Its public GCP pricing is bespoke. Confirm which GCP savings attract a fee and how the baseline is calculated.

For broader services, DoiT Cloud Intelligence billing documentation describes Enhanced and Enterprise charges as the greater of a contractual fixed minimum or a percentage of defined monthly cloud spend. This is not a minimum plus that percentage. The spend calculation covers connected cloud accounts, including accounts outside DoiT resale, subject to documented exclusions.

Request the components that apply: commitment management, platform access, expert services and any separate support arrangement. A bundled quote needs clear entitlements so you can assess what the fee covers.

Measure Value Beyond Existing Savings

Compare each service with the CUD analysis, purchasing and monitoring workflow your team already runs in Google Cloud.

Start both assessments with the same billing period, existing CUD portfolio and eligible uncovered usage. Separate savings you already receive from additional savings the proposed service could generate.

Then compare projected commitment savings after vendor fees and residual underutilization, allowing for qualifying protection and settlement timing. Avoid subtracting a commitment cost twice if the savings calculation already includes it. A modeled estimate is not a realized result.

Assess broader tooling and expertise separately against the work they would replace or improve. Assigning the entire platform fee to CUD savings can undervalue services you need; counting unused services as benefits can overvalue them.

For more context on comparing fee bases, see our Usage.ai vs ProsperOps comparison. The relevant number is defensible incremental value, not the largest advertised discount.

Which Approach Fits Your Team?

When Usage.ai Fits

We fit teams whose main remaining gap is commitment execution: existing reporting and cloud-support arrangements are useful, but purchasing and portfolio management consume time. Evaluate our supported GCP coverage, approval options and conditional Flex protection against that need.

When DoiT Fits

DoiT can fit buyers who need commitment optimization alongside allocation, unit economics or ongoing cloud expertise. Its broader relationship is especially relevant when infrastructure and finance lack the capacity to manage those processes independently.

Is There Value in Both?

Potentially, if DoiT’s broader tooling or expertise remains useful and a specialist adds measurable commitment value. Compare incremental fees and define purchasing responsibility. Two independent systems acting on the same uncovered usage can lead to overlapping purchases.

Final Verdict

Choose the scope that resolves your remaining operational gap and delivers defensible value after fees and commitment exposure. Automation alone does not distinguish the options.

For a focused requirement, assess our execution model and applicable protection terms. For broader reporting, expertise or procurement needs, evaluate DoiT’s package as a wider investment. Include existing tooling and relationships in that calculation.

Choose the proposal that matches your eligible usage, preserves the control your team needs and makes the full economics clear.

Frequently asked questions

Does DoiT automate GCP CUD purchases?

Yes. PerfectScale for Commitments supports approval-based and autonomous purchasing. Its GCP onboarding documentation specifically covers Compute flexible CUDs and Cloud SQL CUDs; confirm executable coverage for other services.

Must we buy Google Cloud through DoiT?

No. DoiT’s pricing FAQ states that Cloud Intelligence can be used while procuring cloud through another partner. Evaluate procurement and support entitlements separately.

Do existing CUDs qualify for Cashback?

Existing CUDs inform our optimization analysis but do not automatically qualify. Flex eligibility depends on the commitments purchased and designated under the applicable program terms.

Does ending the service cancel GCP commitments?

No. Ending a vendor service does not cancel native Google Cloud commitments. Review remaining obligations and any protection that ends with the service before exiting.

How should we compare savings estimates?

Use the same billing baseline, existing commitments and eligible usage. Compare additional savings after applicable fees and utilization exposure, and distinguish modeled outcomes from savings already realized.

Disclaimer: DoiT information in this comparison is based on public documentation reviewed October 9, 2026. Confirm current GCP commitment coverage, purchasing workflows, support entitlements, and pricing directly with each provider. Our Flex Commitment benefits, including Cashback, depend on program eligibility and terms. Modeled savings do not guarantee realized results.
